INNER SANCTUM -
THE MOVIE (1948)
predicts that a sultry young blonde will meet with tragedy on a train. A man
fleeing the police after having committed a murder hides out in a boarding
house in a small town. A young boy witnesses the murder but keeps it a
secret... The blonde, the man, and the boy all wind up in the same boarding
house, sharing close quarters, and trying to cover-up their unsettling secrets.
Plot turns and twists ensue, building to a shattering, unexpected climax. Based
on the hit radio series "Inner Sanctum", this movie is a undiscovered classic
of Film Noir - reminiscent of films like "Detour". A often creepy and dark
film, with great dialog, unusually subtle characterizations and solid acting,
it is amazingly mature for its time. The ravishing Mary Beth Hughes and the
charismatic Charles Russell have great chemistry in this film. Starring:

"Lights Out" was an
early television series based on eerie dramatizations of the radio broadcasts
of the 1930s. The broadcasts made writer and director Arch Oboler a household
name synonymous with the macabre. It was brought to network television between
1949 and 1952. A precursor to shows like "The Twilight Zone," "Night Gallery"
and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Lights Out" is a chilling remnant of
old-fashioned ghost story-telling.
