Amos N' Andy
Their first all-talking motion picture
Check and Double Check
Starring: Freeman F. Gosden, Charles J. Correll & Duke Ellington

Amos and Andy operate a bare-bones taxi service in Harlem, struggling to keep their vehicle running and their tires inflated. When their lodge-master, Kingfish, offers them a lucrative job ferrying Duke Ellington and his Cotton Club Orchestra to a gig in the Upper West Side, they jump at the chance. At the party, the two men run into an old friend, Ralph Crawford, who needs help finding the lost deed to his deceased father's house in order to prove his worth to his prospective in-laws. Amos and Andy spend a spooky night in the dead man's mansion, hoping to locate the papers that will set things right. Check and Double Check is a rare cultural artifact from the dawn of sound film-making. Freeman F. Gosden and Charles J. Correll had already achieved radio stardom on the "Amos 'N' Andy" show, and their voices had become extremely familiar to American audiences. The two white actors had to don minstrel black-face in order to portray the duo in their first "all-talking" motion picture in 1930. While it may seem politically incorrect by today's standards, this curious film highlights the sure comic timing and vocal talent of the two radio stars and features performances by young Duke Ellington in the bargain.

At War With The Army
Starring: Dean Martin &Jerry Lewis

Wacky, song-filled military comedy!
Starring: Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis & Polly Bergen Music by: Mac David &Jerry Livingston Cinematography by: Stuart Thompson Directed by: Hal Walker Screenplay by: Fred F. Finklehoffe
The first starring vehicle for Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, At War With The Army features Martin as the smooth, confident ladies man and Lewis as the bumbling, inept dolt who wreaks havoc everywhere he goes. As Martin bursts into song, Lewis struggles to understand the workings of a Coke machine, successfully creating a character pattern for future Lewis &Martin movies. Lewis is spectacular singing "The Navy Gets The Gravy But The Army Gets The Beans," and is at his slapstick best in this musical comedy set in a WWII army training camp. Lewis is a hopeless private and Martin an overbearing First Sergeant - the two were raised in the same neighborhood before enlisting, and now they find themselves dealing with a loudmouth drill instructor, a sly supply sergeant, a hen-pecked company commander, and a battalion of other zany military characters.

The George Burns &Gracie Allen Show -Volume One
The progression from radio to TV stars proved seamless for George Burns and Gracie Allen, as their 1950s show--THE BURNS & ALLEN SHOW--brought much laughter into homes across the country. This collection of eight episodes offers some highlights from the program, with Burns and Allen presenting a comedic look at their real-life relationship, and the problems and mishaps they encountered on a daily basis.
Since becoming a vaudeville team in 1922, George Burns and Gracie Allen have made audiences laugh in movies, radio and television. The real-life married couple established their personalities in radio with "The Burns and Allen Show" and brought their comedy to television in 1950. For nine years on CBS, every show opened with Burns, puffing his trademark cigar, regaling the audience with stories of their vaudeville days... and the latest antics of his beloved wife, Gracie. Often entangled with their neighbors the Morton's, Gracie's zany wit was always the cause (and solution) to their misadventures of domestic bliss. When Gracie passed away in 1964, George continued to entertain in his inimitable style for another 32 years, even winning an Oscar in 1976 for his performance in The Sunshine Boys. George lived to be 100 and always credited Gracie with "being the talented one." As George would say after each classic episode, "Say goodnight, Gracie." Includes eight classic episodes!
Episodes include:
Dance Lessons
Harry Morton's Secretary
Gracie's Car Accident
Free Trip To Hawaii
Beverly Hills Uplift Society
Home Wedding
Teen Age Space Girls
Gracie;s Bank Account

The Lum And Abner Movies

Lum and Abner was an American radio comedy network program created by Chester Lauck and Norris Goff that aired from 1931 to 1954. Modeled on life in the small town of Waters, Arkansas, near where Lauck and Goff grew up, the showed proved immensely popular. In 1936, Waters changed its name to Pine Ridge after the show's fictional town. Like several of their contemporaries, Lauck and Goff had the opportunity to bring their characters to life in movies. The Lum & Abner radio show of March 29, 1940, "The Store Closes to Shoot a Movie," announced a break in the radio series in order to make the first film, Dreaming Out Loud, which was released the same year. We have that movies and 3 others.

The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet

The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet began on radio in 1944, the boys' roles were played by professional actors, but in 1949 Ozzie finally allowed his actual offspring to go on the air. When it transitioned to Television in 1952 it became one of TV's longest-running family comedies. The show was the real-life Nelson family on the air, with the two young boys, Rick &David growing up before the television audience's eyes. From 1952 to 1966 Ricky went from a crew-cut 11-year-old, to a real-life teenage singing idol, to a 25-year-old husband. In April 1957 he sang "A Teenager's Romance," which became a real-life million selling record for him. After that, all of his songs were featured in Ozzie &Harriet episodes, or in an closing short segment at the end of the show. On the show, David became a lawyer, but in real life he turned to directing, first for the Nelson Family series, other TV comedies, and some movies in the 80’s. David Nelson still works steadily as a producer/director. In the TV beginning, Ozzie received an unprecedented 10 year contract from the ABC network. He would be the producer, director and head writer. No one ever in television has controlled a show that much for that long. In 1959, ABC made a commitment for another 5 years of episodes. Other notable cast members were Don DeFore, Parley Baer , Lyle Talbot , Skip Young, as well as Stanley and Barry Livingston (My Three Sons).

The Red Skelton Show Volume 1

Red Skelton along with his many characters are featured in four vintage classic comedy shows.

With a career beginning in vaudeville, Red Skelton found success in radio and film before his television variety show brought him into America's living rooms in 1951. Skelton's slapstick bits and colorful character's were extremely popular and the show remained on the air for two decades. A strict adherent to the concept of doing only one take, his program retained an off-the-cuff style, with flubbed lines and frequent ad-libs becoming part of his immense charm.
Episode 1 Skelton performs a pantomime bit about the types of people found in the crowd at a boxing match, pretends to be a British newscaster on a BBC program sponsored by "Clive's Crumpet Juice" and invents a game called "pedestrian polo."
Episode 2 Guest star Ed Sullivan takes the stage to point out various celebrities in the audience, including Red Skelton as boxer Cauliflower McPugg. Red ad-libs as a Wild West gunslinger in the Golden Nugget Saloon.
Episode 3 Red and butler Reggie accidentally invent a solution that gets rid of smog. Coincidentally, a radio broadcast aired that morning states that the Los Angeles Smog Czar is offering ten million dollars to anyone who can eliminate the problem. Red thinks his ship has come in, but a group of gangsters have heard the broadcast too and they soon learn of Skelton's discovery. George Raft guest stars.
Episode 4 Reggie convinces Red that what he needs is a hobby and directs him to the local "Do It Yourself" convention. There, he gets conned into spending nine hundred dollars on an unassembled trailer which, once put together, leaves much to be desired.

You Bet Your Life Volume One (TV Series)
Starring: Groucho Marx & George Fenneman

Four hilarious episodes of the classic TV quiz show on each DVD, featuring the wit of Groucho Marx.

Groucho Marx matches wits with the American public in four episodes of this classic game show. Starting on the radio in 1947, You Bet Your Life made its television debut in 1950 and aired for 11 years with Groucho as host and emcee. Sponsored rather conspicuously by the Dodge DeSoto car manufacturers, the show featured two contestants working as a team to answer questions for cash prizes. Another mainstay of these question and answer segments was the paper mache duck that would descend from the ceiling with one hundred dollars in tow whenever a player uttered the "secret word." The quiz show aspect of "You Bet Your Life" was always secondary, to the clever back-and-forth between host and contestant, which found Groucho at his funniest. It's in these interview segments that "You Bet Your Life" truly makes its mark as one of early television's greatest programs. Directed by: Robert Dwan.
